As a certified birth doula through DONA International, Leah is passionate about walking with women and families during a vulnerable, yet empowering, life season. She has been a licensed massage therapist for 15 years and loves using her massage skills in the birthing room to decrease tension and to help keep the birth process flowing. Leah is also a Hypnobabies Hypno-Doula who works with families who have taken the Hypnobabies course and wish to work with a doula who knows how to assist Hypnobabies families in their birthing time. She is honored to assist women in preparing for a fearless, evidence-based birth, whether it be in a hospital setting, birth center or at home. Leah has a respect for each individual woman’s birth desires and encourages families to advocate for their birth vision as they welcome their baby into their family.

As funny as it might sound, Leah’s excitement for birth was first piqued when witnessing one of her goats giving birth on her family’s small hobby farm when she was in high school. As the doe pressed her forehead against the side of the barn wall in concentration, Leah felt a sense of wonder with the birthing process and new life. She knew she wanted to stay by the doe’s side. Through the births of her own children, she has come to realize the invaluable need for birth support and how a positive or negative birth experience can have an impact on a woman’s entire life.

Leah earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature at Gordon College, just outside of Boston, in 2001. Leah graduated from the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe in 2005 and became a licensed massage therapist. She has always worked in helping fields throughout her life, first as a veterinary technician and currently as a massage therapist providing deep tissue, hot stone, prenatal and Swedish massage to women. Originally from Massachusetts, she has lived in Colorado Springs for ten years with her husband, five children, two cats, a dog, a bird and three chickens. When not assisting birthing families, she enjoys spending time with her animals, biking, gardening, baking and writing.
